Performance Requirements
General:
I can perform with or without staging, indoors or outdoors, and regularly play in small areas. If possible, a small room or area to change/wait in and to store equipment cases would be appreciated.
I require a minimum of one electrical socket (but two would be preferable) and I provide my own PAT tested extension leads. If power is to be provided by a generator, it is the responsibility of the client/venue to ensure that it is of sufficient rating, and has sufficient cables and adaptors to supply power safely without the risk of overload. The full power consumption is approximately 1500W, which can be safely provided by 1 standard mains wall socket.
The provision of food & beverages during the event would be greatly appreciated, but is not a requirement.
Sound Limiters:
Very few venues now use this outdated technology, but sound limiters are always problematic as they are triggered by frequency as well as decibels.
Most sound levels in entertainment venues will be fairly high, in excess of 95 dBA, and maintaining levels below this is generally unrealistic for live music. Unamplified acoustic instruments or audience applause can generate enough sound to trigger sound limiters, and the effect of mains power cutting out and then cutting back in again runs the risk of causing serious damage to our sound equipment and possibly an abrupt end to all music. More importantly for you, this would result in a serious impact on your enjoyment!
Recent guidelines from the EU Environmental Noise Directive suggest that rather than using this technology, average sound levels are to be measured over a 20 minute period to give an accurate representation.
As I guarantee that my volumes are within legal limits as measured according to theses directives, I do ask that if a sound limiter is installed, it is agreed that it will be overridden for the duration of the performance. All sound limiters have this functionality, and it is your right as the hirer of the venue, to request that this is done. I have taken sample measures from a number of varying performances to verify that I am able to commit to this guarantee.
